London: Boswell Publishing - The Britons Publishing Society, 1947. First edition, 1947. Published by Boswell Publishing with the label of The Britons Publishing Society - an anti-Semitic organization - covering the imprint on the title page. This copy is most notable by the name and date written at the top of the front free endpaper - Marcella Spann, Dec. 1956. Spann started visiting Ezra Pound in mid 1956 when he was incarcerated at St. Elizabeth's hospital, and later became his assistant, travelling with Pound and his family to live in Italy after his release in 1958. This book was on the short reading list Pound gave to Spann when she first started visiting him, and a photocopy of the list in Pound's handwriting is laid in loosely at the front. Pound was sympathetic to the author, who was imprisoned for being a Nazi sympathizer despite distinguished service in the British navy. Pound memorialized Domville and a mutual friend in Cantos 89/599 and 102/729. It is likely that Pound either obtained this book for Spann or advised her where to find one, as the book - written in 1943 - was suppressed even after its 1947 publication. Dark red cloth with dustjacket. The book has only light rubbing to the extremities, good hinges, sound text block, age-toned but clean pages, old price at upper corner of front free endpaper, no other names or markings. The mylar protected dustjacket also has the publisher information updated with a label inside the front flap. It is priceclipped and has some shelf soil to the plain white rear panel, some minor chipping but fairly little paper loss.. First Edition. Hard Cover. Good/Good. 12mo - over 6" - 7" tall. Dust jacket present. First Edition.
