London: Stanley Crowder, and B. Collins, 1770. Fifth edition, 1770 (originally published 1738). Volume I of two. Astounding variety of formulae - or receipts - for various trades and occupations. Illustrated with a frontis engraving and 16 additional plates, two folding. Mid 20th century full glazed mahogany color leater binding with gilt spine lettering and raised spine bands, newer endpapers but with one blank at front and rear retained, about 8.25" tall, [8], 352, [8] pages. Very light external wear, good hinges, firm binding, slightly age-toned but clean pages with only a bit of light foxing, old handwritten name on old endpaper with "dragons blood and brandy" written after it, and - very unfortunately - a modern name and address stamp in blue on the verso of the frontis plate (near the top) and the blank side of the final page of the index (near the bottom), both of which have some slight bleed-through to the printed sides. Engraved plates very good and unmarked.. Hard Cover. Good. 8vo - over 7" - 9" tall.
