New York: E. P. Dutton & Company, 1893. Originally published in 1892. Historical fiction set just before and during the Revolutionary War in New London, Connecticut. This copy has a fascinating handwritten note at the front: "The 'Old Harbor Town' as you will see is based on facts. There are no fictitious names of places used. I have seen all of the places except 'Pequonoc' and 'Manwaring' a place in site of the house where Dr. Manwaring lived. The Dr's sign is still in the house although he has been dead a good many years, his son & wife, I mean the son's mother lives there. They are millionaires but tighter than the bark of a tree (he is a Bach[?]). The Winthrop Mill spoken of course you will recognize as the one the picture of which I have sent you so often. Page 205 is granny's description of Contiemah moor [?], the ledge of rocks at Eastern point spoken of I think is where Dr. Wharton (the first evangelical preacher's) summer house stands". The writer of the note is not identified. Gray cloth printed in gilt and green, 275 pages. Frontis photo image of New London Harbor. Some cover soil and wear, mainly rubbing to the edges, good hinges, sound binding, clean pages with a name and date on the first blank, no other markings. A sound and internally near fine copy. . Early Reprint. Hard Cover. Very Good. 12mo - over 6¾" - 7¾" tall.
