Little Compton, RI: The United Congregational Society, 1904. First edition. Worn copy of this hard to find history of not only the United Congregational Church but of Little Compton (originally Sakonnett, Soconot, etc.) itself. A fascinating book filled with historical information about this area first settled by Puritans from Plymouth, and part of Massachusetts until the mid eighteenth century. Illustrated in black and white. Some additional historical notes in old handwriting, as well as a few newspaper clippings, laid in loosely at the front. Three quarter maroon leather over green cloth, 120 pages. Externally poor but internally very good. Covers are detached, binding badly worn and chipped, old tape repairs to hinges. Text block is firm with no loosened pages, pages clean with the exception of a few faintly darkened areas where the newspaper clippings were formerly stored, names on reverse of frontis, no other markings. A worn but useful copy.. First Edition. Hard Cover. Fair. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. First Edition.
