Undated (ca. 1950's) draft copy of a scarce work on William Byrd II's work and the copperplate engravings from the Bodleian Library that were used as a basis for restoration of portions of Colonial Williamsburg, most particularly the Governor's Palace. Sections include: The Bodleian Copperplates (The Initial Discovery; Richard Rawlinson and the Plates; Linking the Copperplates as a Group; The Engraving Technique; The Date of the Plates); Author and Origin (The Dividing Line Plate; The Williamsburg Buildings; William Byrd's Views of British Politics and the Americas - The Remining Copperplates; Byrd's Perception of the Natural World and the Natural History of the Plates; The Draughtsman and Engraver of the Plates); and William Byrd II's Purpose and Motivation (William Byrd's Background; William Byrd Surveys the Line; William Byrd the Literateur and Historian). The manuscript is in an old Acco-fastened binder with photocopies of figures and illustrations, with mainly photocopied typewritten pages and several pages which appear to be original typewritten copies, 229 pages plus a seventeen-page appendix.
