Stout  The Shorebirds of North America New York The Viking Press 1967 First Edition Hard Cover Near Fine Very Good Folio - over 12" - 15" tall Inscribed By Both Author and Illustrator Beautifully illustrated book about birds inhabiting North America's shores, with 32 full color plates, additional illustrations in black and white, descriptive text and an appendix with plumage descriptions and species accounts by Ralph S. Palmer. Signed by the illustrator below his name on the title page, inscription to a specific couple, "with best regards, Peter Matthiessen", on the front free endpaper. Beige cloth with spine labeling in brown and gilt, 270 pages, illustrated dustjacket. The book looks and feels nearly new, with just a bit of light shelfwear to the upper and lower edges, some rubbing to the spine lettering, just a bit of dustiness to the top edge. The mylar protected dustjacket is not priceclipped and has some edgewear, including some short closed tears and a bit of chipping to the spine ends, very little paper loss.
