Bowles 1833 First American Edition Full-Leather Good 12mo (7" x 4.5" or 18 cm x 11.5 cm) First American edition of this text on women's roles in the early 19th century. Examines women's influence on and roles in Letters, Religion, Romance, and Education, and discusses Female Defects and Duties. Full calf with minimal gilt decoration, engraved frontis, [3], 180, [3]. Externally worn, with front cover nearly detached, and much spine chipping. Ideal candidate for rebacking. Inscriptions in ink and in pencil on front free endpaper, which has two small inner margin tears (no paper loss). Uniformly browned and foxed throughout. Final printed leaf has a 1/4" x 1/2" inner top margin chip and a notation in pencil. Still a good copy of a hard-to-find book. Price: 145.00 USD
