Includes 120 black and white plates printed on thick paper, one side only, with brief explanatory comments on India paper opposite each plate. The plates have varying degrees of foxing, from none to moderately heavy, with most falling into the lighter category. Dark brown blind stamped cloth lettered and decorated in gilt, about 242 leaves with an extra engraved title "Natural History of New York". Covers worn with much of the spine covering absent, binding stitches visible in the inner margins between the pages, hinges cracked but text block sound with no loosened pages.
