If you're looking for unique and thoughtful business or personal gifts, or just something special to add to your collection, rare, collectible and gently used books are always appreciated, and are an environmentally sound, "green" alternative to buying new.  We have more than 13,000 books online, and you're certain to find something to interest you or someone you know.

New Category

We recently purchased a number of books from the estate of noted UFO investigator and MUFON public relations director Robert Bletchman.  This is unusual subject matter for us, but we've enjoyed learning about this topic and have decided - at least temporarily - to feature a new category for these books:  UFOs, Paranormal and Unexplained.

About Our BOOKS Sign

The large BOOKS sign visible in the photo above is part of the sign that once proudly hung over the main door of the venerable Johnson's Bookstore in Springfield, Massachusetts.  Founded in 1893, the family-owned bookstore grew to encompass several buildings and sold new and used books, art supplies, office supplies and giftware.  It became a Downtown Springfield destination at which you could spend hours browsing.  Due to the proliferation of the big bookstore chains and the floundering Springfield economy, Johnson's closed its doors for good in the mid-1990s.  Along with some other store fixtures, we purchased the large gilt metal letters that spelled out BOOKSTORE above the door (the Johnson family still has the Johnson's part).  Originally mounted on a green background, we mounted the first five letters (we still have the others) on a dark blue background to provide a sharp contrast with the gilt.  So if you ever purchase a book with a small Johnson's Bookstore sticker along the bottom edge of the inner front or rear cover, you now also have a better idea where it came from.  The closing of the store marked the end of an era.

What We Buy and Sell

Resource Books, LLC not only buys and sells antiquarian and out-of-print books, but also related items, such as bookends, postcards, inkstands, old written correspondence, maps and atlases, all kinds of old paper items, and much more. We carry a wide variety of books dating from the sixteenth through the twenty-first centuries, with a minor emphasis on non-fiction, but we don't restrict our stock based on subject matter - if we think it's interesting or unusual, we try to offer it. We purchase single books, small or large quantities of books and paper, and even entire private libraries or bookstores throughout New England and Northeastern New York, and will travel further for unique buying opportunities. We have purchased more than 30,000 books in a single purchase, so inquiries about large-scale purchasing opportunities (bookstores or libraries) are welcome.

Other Services

Other services we provide include book searches; consultation on furnishing personal libraries (books and other items, from bookends to bookcases, from maps and globes to lighting); library and museum de-accession sales; library fundraising sales; consignment sales; and complete estate liquidation. We are also available for "Antiques Roadshow" - type benefit events or will speak to small groups about collecting and caring for books.

Resource Books, LLC is a member of IOBA, the Independent Online Booksellers Association. IOBA is dedicated to maintaining and enforcing high ethical and professional standards for member booksellers, including a Code of Ethics and promoting trust between customers and booksellers by providing a safe online environment for the purchase and sale of books.  Our business has also been profiled in the IOBA Standard newsletter.
