Boston Little, Brown and Company 1935 Early Printing Hard Cover Good Good
The Atlantic non-fiction prize book for 1935. Biography of a Swiss-born colorful character who was educated in medical school in Zurich, but who later emigrated to a new home on the American prairie - fighting the cattle ranchers for settlers' rights, staking claims, delivering babies, experimenting with crops, and leading an equally ambitious personal life that involved marrying four different women (not all at the same time), and having six children (the author was the second of the six). Yellow-tan cloth with navy lettering and cover portrait illustration, illustrated endpapers, frontis portrait, 424 pages, matching illustrated dustjacket. The book is in good condition with some edgewear including rubbed corners and spine ends, some light suface soil particularly around the edges, age-toned and foxed outer edge, sound text block, good hinges, lightly age-toned but clean pages with no names or other markings. The mylar protected dustjacket is not priceclipped and is also in good condition with some foxing and rubbing along the edges, chips across spine panel ends, less than two percent paper loss overall and no damage obstructing design.
