First edition, first state [1880], with the six word dedication, be-became on page 11, twelve pages of ads. Brown cloth with gilt spine lettering, 552 pages. Covers lightly rubbed with additional rubbing and minor fraying to spine ends, good hinges, sound text block with a few sections very slightly loosened but very well attached, name on preliminary blank, name written at far upper corner of title page, printed portrait of Wallace mounted on front free endpaper with "Very truly yours, Lew Wallace" on an additional clipping below - we believe it to be a printed signature, not the real thing. Pages are lightly age-toned but clean with no additional names or markings.

Worn but attractive copy of this fictionalized account of the life of a young Jesus Christ written by the author of Ben-Hur and former Governor of New Mexico. Illustrated throughout with black and white plates. Dark blue cloth over beveled boards lettered and decorated in gilt, all edge gilt, 110 pages. Covers and spine ends rubbed and lightly chipped, rear cover has a few areas where something light brown had gotten stuck on it (possibly removable with some effort), front hinge internally cracked, text block sound with no loosened pages, front free endpaper removed, gift notation dated 1897 on half-title, endpapers and half-title a bit foxed, pages clean and free from other names or markings.

Very clean and handsomely bound set in Art Nouveau style decorated cloth bindings. Historical fiction adapted from the Spanish of Fernando de Alva by the author of Ben-Hur. Illustrated throughout with black and white and sepia plates accompanied by captioned tissue protectors. Bright red cloth lettered and extensively decorated in gilt and green, gilt tops, other edges uncut, title pages and half-titles in black and vermilion, title heading and initials accented in vermilion, 352 + 450 pages. The books look and feel about new, with some minimal shelfwear, mainly light rubbing to the spine ends, good hinges, firm bindings, very clean pages free from names or other markings. A clean and attractive set with unfaded spines.
