First edition. Vast collection of American folk paintings reproduced in color, mostly full page plates. Forest green blindstamp lettered cloth with gilt spine lettering, mocha endpapers and chapter dividers, 234 pages, color illustrated dustjacket. The book is in fine condition, looks and feels new, with sound text block, good hinges, a small black dot on upper corner of rear free endpaper, clean and unread looking pages free from names or other markings. The mylar protected dustjacket is not priceclipped and is in very good, new looking condition.

Includes 86 color plates, 146 illustrations in black and white. Brick red boards, with burnt orange cloth spine, crimison spine lettering, 244 pages with extensive index, color illustrated dustjacket. The book is in very good condition with minimal edgewear, sound text block, good hinges, clean pages with no names or other markings. The mylar protected dustjacket is not corner clipped and is also in very good condition with some edgwear in the form of rubbed spine ends and corners.

Lipman, Jean American Primitive Painting
New York Oxford University Press 1945 Second Printing Hard Cover Very Good Good
Important work on American primitive painting, mainly from New England and Pennsylvania, 1790 to 1875. Illustrated throughout in both color and in black and white. This copy belonged to Julia D. S. Snow (1891-1984), noted antique dealer, collector and author from Greenfield, Massachusetts, with her name and address written prominently on the front free endpaper, and with a few scholarly pencil notes to the index. Light khaki colored cloth, 158 pages, illustrated dustjacket. Very light shelfwear, a bit of uneven fading to the covers, good hinges, sound text block, clean pages with some old tape marks on the front endpapers from an old clipping. The mylar protected dustjacket is corner-clipped and also has tape residue on the front inner flap, a few chips and tears, good overall with fairly little paper loss.

Collected essays by ten authoritative authors on the subject of American primitive painters, illustrated throughout in black and white plus a color frontis. Invidual artists discussed include: Eunice Pinney; Ruth Henshaw Bascom; Edward Hicks; Mary Ann Willson; Rufus Porter; James Sanford Ellsworth; Erastus Salisbury Field; William Matthew Prior; Deborah Goldsmith; Joseph H. Davis; Thomas Chambers; Joseph Whiting Stock; James and John Bard; Joseph H. Hidley; Olaf Krans; Paul Seifert. Signed by both authors on the half-title. This copy belonged to Julia D. S. Snow (1891-1984), noted antique dealer, collector and author from Greenfield, Massachusetts, with her name and address written prominently on the front free endpaper, a few of her additions to the index, and several clippings and some photos which we've put into an archival sleeve and left with the book. Rust-colored cloth, 182 pages, no dustjacket. Light shelfwear, mainly rubbing to the spine ends, good hinges, sound text block, rear endpapers toned from the clippings, pages generally clean with some of Snow's pencil notes.
