Miller, Francesca Falk The Sands: The Story of Chicago's Front Yard Chicago Valentine-Newman 1948 First Edition Hard Cover Very Good Fair Signed by the Author First edition, signed boldly by the author on the front free endpaper. Historical fiction set along the Sands, where Chicago meets Lake Michigan, involving the forbidden love of a society girl for a fisherman later accused of murder, and who redeems hiimself through service in the Civil War. The story is intertwined with the rise and fall of Streeterville and involves real characters such as Cap and Ma Streeter, Long John Wentworth, and others. Follows Old Chicago from its early days through the Great Fire and on to the twentieth century. Tan cloth, 215 pages, dustjacket. Light edge rubbing, minor shelf soil, good hinges, sound text block, clean pages with no other names or markings. The mylar protected dustjacket is in fair to good condition, is priceclipped and has a faded spine and considerable shallow chipping to the extrmities, transparent tape repair to lower portion of rear joint, fairly little paper loss overall.
