First edition of the author's first book, a stinging critique of post World War II society, its protagonist a writer whose work has declined since the publication of his first book. Includes a Polish general, an ancient mynah bird and other off-beat characters and locales. Light red cloth lettered in black, 298 pages, illustrated dustjacket. The book has almost no wear, good hinges, sound text block, clean pages free from names or other markings. The mylar protected dustjacket is not priceclipped and has some tiny edge chips and tears, little paper loss, tiny dampstain to front inner flap. Very clean and sound copy.
