First edition [1961]. Survey of World Cultures No. 11. Very good in lightly worn dustjacket. A portrait of Afghanistan and its people prior to the Soviet invasion, focusing on its culture, economic development, social reform and international relations, including the dispute with Pakistan about Pushtunistan. Bright green and tan cloth with illustrated dustjacket. Very light shelfwear, good hinges, firm text block, clean pages with no names or other markings. The mylar protected dustjacket has edgewear and minor chipping to the spine ends, a few short closed tears to the edges of the rear panel, very little paper loss.

Seagreen linen-like cloth with heavy silver gilt spine lettering, 312 pages with extensive index, illustrated dustjacket. The book is in very good condition to near fine condition with a vaguely discernible small pencil erasure atop rear endpaper, negligible additional edgewear, sound text block, good hinges, clean pages with no names or other markings. The mylar protected dustjacket is not priceclipped and is in very good condition with minor edge chipping.

Second edition [1950], first published in 1948. Tan cloth with worn dustjacket. Llight shelfwear, good hinges, sound text block, clean pages with no names or other markings. The mylar protected dustjacket is priceclipped and has considerable edge rubbing and chipped spine ends but fairly little paper loss.
