Russell 1902 First Edition Hard Cover Good No Externally worn copy of this delightful book containing more than seventy whimsical depictions of imaginary beasts, in gold and gray tinted full page plates throughout. Some are nonesensical, some represent moral lessons, others accompany nursery rhymes. Includes such "animals" as the Golf Lynx; the Jail Bird; the Brick Bat; the Round Robin; the Welsh Rabbit; the Bookworm; the Pigeon Toad and the Battering Ram, among others. Pictorial boards with white cloth spine, light soil and edgewear, a blank personal bookplate with a verse affixed to front pastedown, good hinges, generally sound text block with a bit of separation between a few sections but no loosened pages, clean pages with some occasional light finger smudges to the margins, no names or other markings.
