Rough copy of the 1820 fourth edition of this classic of American architecture, with sections on practical geometry; the origin of buildling; of the five orders of architecture; stairs; columns; plans and elevations of houses; churches, court houses, etc.; sashes, shutters, coors, cornices, mouldings, architraves, etc., and more. Includes 59 (of 61 called for) plates. Original full calf, 104p. plus plates. A rough copy with front cover detached, spine dried, chipped and worn, moderate to heavy foxing throughout, some dampstains. Pages 35-38 and plates 12 and 13 absent. Large closed tear to pages 41/42, plates 15, 16, 17 and 18 badly chipped and dampstained, plate 19 has a clean tears, plates 37 and 58 have closed tears and dampstains, other small margin chips and closed tears throughout, some pencil underlining in preface, rear free endpaper absent.
