New York The Limited Editions Club 1961 Limited Edition Hard Cover Very Good Good Slipcase
Number 841 of 1500 copies. The Limited Editions club, founded by George Macy in 1929, has a long history of producing well-made limited editions of classic and carefully selected contemporary literature, usually signed by the illustrator, designer or other party involved in the production of this particular edition. Two volume set in slipcase; the larger volume containing reproductions of pages from Horace's early printed works; the smaller one containing the odes and epodes in both the original Latin and in English translation. Both volumes have marbled boards and tan cloth spines with dark green spine labels, speckled edges. The larger volume measures 14" x 9.75"; the smaller 7.5" x 5.25", the latter containing 394 pages plus colophon. The larger volume also retains its original tissue jacket, although the spine area has darkened and has effectively chipped away. The slipcase, which is tan with a green label, has a slot for each volume and ribbon ties to assist in removing the books. The books have some slight spine fading and a bit of spine soil to the smaller volume, good hinges, sound text blocks, very clean pages free from names or other markings, the larger volume with a bit of light foxing to the endleaves. The slipcase has shelfwear and uneven fading, some light chipping to the spine label, but is sound and sturdy.
