Washington, D.C.: Cornelius Wendell, Printer, 1856. First edition [1856]. Worn. Published as Ex. Doc. 18, 34th Congress, 3d Session, House of Representatives. Bookplate with compliments of Prof. A. D. Bache, Supt. U.S. Coast Survey, on front pastedown. Thick volume containing text, appendices, with numerous folding maps and diagrams. All maps present, diagrams 64, 65 and 66 absent. Brown blind stamped cloth with gilt lettering, nearly 12" tall, nearly 3" thick. Maps comprise a survey of the US from New England to the Pacific Northwest, some very large in size, mainly in good condition with just a few pinhole tears to intersecting folds, closed tears to the inner margins of the first map, extra creases to a two maps, fairly minor dampstains to maps 1, 3, 4, 8, 12, 21,22, 26, 49, 49, 51, 60 more extensive staining to 39, some spotting from old leaves and flowers. Covers worn, spotted and unevenly faded, front hinge cracked, some insect damage near the front hinge, free endpapers removed, dampstains to the far outer edges of the first several pages, some discoloration from old leaves and flowers mainly in the text section, pages 209-16 bound in upside down, just generally a little grubby from long term attic storage.. First Edition. Hard Cover. Fair. 4to - over 9" - 12" tall. First Edition.
