Van Allen, Jane A. One Hundred Poems New York J. S. Ogilvie 1890 First Edition Hard Cover Very Good Poetry with Christian religious and inspirational themes, collected by a nineteenth century missionary to West Africa. Van Allen, an AMA (American Missionary Association) teacher, also traveled to Charleston, South Carolina in 1866 to help the poor, mainly the newly freed slaves. The poems have decorative engravings at the beginning and/or end, and are housed in a lovely decorated Victorian cloth binding. Bright red cloth lettered and decorated in gilt and black, patterned endpapers, 160 pages. Very light shelfwear, mainly a bit of light rubbing to the corners and spine ends, slightly faded spine, good hinges, sound text block, very clean pages free from names or other markings.
