London: W. Bowyer, for Bernard Lintott between the Temple-Gates, 1715. First printing of this translation, with title pages dated 1715 and 1716. Contains Volumes 1 & 2 [of a set of six volumes] in one binding, ending after Book VIII (Iliad not complete). Heavily worn, with front cover detached but present. Full brown leather, 11.25" tall: half-title, frontis portrait, [50], 2p plates, 55, folding plan of Troy, [2], 36, 37, [2], 50, 41, [3], 27, [1], 30, [2], 30, [2], 22, [2], title page, 306, [1 errata], plus a folding map of Greece and Phrygia that is detached but probably belongs somewhere in volume II. Considerable cover wear, front cover detached, text block sound, pages generally clean but slightly darkened around the perimeters from either dampness (no musty odor) or simply age, single page plates very good, folding plates have some edgewear and the plan of Troy has some foxing and a closed tear along one fold line that extends about an inch into the engraved area. Name of Harriet D. Ryder, Exeter, New Hampshire on the front free endpaper, no other markings.. First Edition. Hard Cover. Fair. 4to - over 9" - 12" tall. First Edition.

London: Frederick Warne and Co., 1900. Undated, ca. 1900. Chandos Poets series. Both of Homer's masterworks in one volume, illustrated with engravings, pages outlined in red. Three quarter tan leather over marbled boards, raised spine bands, red spine label, gilt decorated compartments, marbled edges and endpapers, 7.75" tall, 850 pages. Extremities rubbed, a little roughness to the spine head but no actual chips, firm binding, clean pages with some light foxing to the preliminaries and to the top edges of a handful of pages throughout the book, no names or other markings.. Hard Cover. Good. 8vo - over 7" - 9" tall.

London: J. Johnson, 1791. First edition of the Cowper translation, 1791. Exceptional two volume set in period covers, professionally and exquisitely rebacked in the mid to late 20th century. Full calf leather with gilt panel design, spine has dual spine labels, gilt decorated compartments, books both just under eleven inches tall. Light rubbing to the extremities, tight bindings, very clean pages. Each volume bears an armorial bookplate made by Charles William Sherborn, 1892, for Charles Francis Cole. The name has been neatly crossed out with the name Arthur Cole - Lincoln's Inn, neatly written below, no other names or markings other than A.C. 1938 written on the verso of each front free endpaper.. First Edition. Hard Cover. Very Good. 4to - over 9" - 12" tall. First Edition.
