Full contemporary calf with black spine labels, round red volume labels below, 7.25" tall, 288 + 308 + 316 + 307, [1] pages. Each volume contains the armorial bookplate of John Callender, engraved by Joseph Callender, on its front pastedown, and handwritten on each front free endpaper: New Salem Academy from Hon. E. A. Greenwood, and a number of 314 through 317. Externally worn, with surface cracking to most of the joints but all covers firmly attached, edgewear and very light chipping to corners and spine ends, surface chips to rear cover of first volume, very old and very expert leather patch to rear cover and spine of second volume, vertical cracks to spine of first volume, but binding remains sound (binder's cords visible in a couple of areas), bindings of other volumes firm, pages slightly age-toned but clean and remarkably free from foxing, outer edges of endpapers darkened from the binder's glue, offsetting of bookplates onto front free endpapers, closed tear to rear free endpaper of volume II. . First Edition. Hard Cover. Fair. 12mo - over 6" - 7" tall. First Edition.

Attractive two volume set bound in full vellum lettered and decorated in gilt, top edges gilt, ribbon bookmarks. Each volume bears the dramatic engraved bookplate of Francis A. Gaskill, a former Massachusetts judge. Some finger soil to the vellum, spines a little darkened with a short tear to the spine head of volume I, covers not splayed as they usually are with vellum bindings, good hinges, firm text blocks, plates fresh and clean, age-toned endpapers, very clean pages with no other names or markings.. Limited Edition. Hard Cover. Good. 8vo - over 7" - 9" tall.
