Printed at the Chiswick Press. A beautifully presented book showcasing Hogarth's works. Contents include a Memoir of the author's life followed an extensive Bibliography and Catalogues. Illustrated with 12 photogravures, 32 other plates (including one folding plate) and fifteen vignette engravings, with full plates tissue-protected. Half cloth, with vellum-colored spine and muted blue paper covered boards, gilt spine lettering, lovely and thick deckle-edged paper, uncut edges, (xiv, 368 + plates). Externally worn, with frayed spine ends and bumped corners, spine sunned. Binding cracked after Table of Contents (between gatherings A & B), some pages a little fingerprinted at the beginning of the book, otherwise clean. Externally fair, internally very good.. Loss to nearly all of 5th and 11th stanzas, partial loss (minor to significant) to about 18 of the 68 stanzas.Outer edges have some very old makeshift repairs with yellow paper, one with the signature of Rhoda Humphrey [Case] (c1749-1805) on one of the yellow pieces, considerable age-toning and wear..
