Scarce Victorian era lost world fantasy by this Chicago author and artist - the story of a lost race of spindly giants living on an island at the North Pole. Illustrated by the author with twelve engravings plus an engraved title printed in black and gilt on blue paper. The story is presented as a true event by an Alabama slave whose master sets him free when he finishes the narrative. Parker Pillsbury, to whom the book is inscribed, was a radical preacher and advocate of nonresistance whose strong abolitionist views resulted in his ejection from the Congregational Church.
